This piece was painted for the 2026 Blowing Rock Plein Air Festival.  This is the Homestead residence and birthplace of the founder of Mass General Store; A chain of stores that are quite well known in North Carolina.  If you've never heard of them before, think of an old school Buc-ee's General Store.  This is one of the oldest standing residents in North Carolina.  It was built in the early 1800s.  As it turned out, one of our close friends is a direct descendant of the Mast family; something I did not know until she walked into my house and saw the painting sitting on my fireplace mantle about a week after I painted it,  it was still drying.  She also happens to be one of my biggest patrons so, I have put this on hold for her.  I had originally painted it because my wife and I vacationed here for an anniversary.  The residence is part of the Mast Inn Bed and Breakfast.  The roof looks like a forest floor covered in moss and ferns, no air conditioner needed and apparently an early adapter of environmentally friendly building practices.  ;)
